I shoot and edit, so I know what a cut needs before I'm the one making it.

Application for the freelance video editor role. Based in Oceanside, CA, cutting corporate, documentary, testimonial, and event work in DaVinci Resolve, both on footage I shoot myself and footage handed off from other shooters.

How I approach a cut

A lot of what I edit is footage I shot myself, so I already think in cuts on set: coverage, angles, the line I'll need later. On projects where someone else shot it, the job is the same instinct applied after the fact, finding the story already sitting in the footage, the right soundbite, the right cutaway, the pacing that keeps someone watching instead of scrolling past. Either way I clean up audio, grade for consistency, and build out horizontal and vertical versions depending on where it's going. Revisions get turned around quickly and I keep projects organized enough that picking a timeline back up six months later isn't a problem.
